Domain transfer: the auth code and the extra year
3 MIN · THE SITEKODO TEAM
To move a domain from another provider you need an authorisation (auth/EPP) code from your current provider. This product stores the code encrypted and deletes it when the transfer completes.
By ICANN's own rule a successful transfer adds one year to the domain's term — not a registrar's choice but the registry's standard practice.
A transfer is taken as a request; nothing is charged at this step and an operator forwards it to the registrar after approval. The screen has no cancel step — check the domain name and the code before you submit the form.
